1953 Allard J2X replica FOR SALE

This 1953 Allard J2X replica kit was said to have been manufactured in the late 1980’s by Elite Enterprises, Inc of Cokato, MN who were later bought out by Hardy Motors of Ramona, California.

Finished in Corvette Torch Red over tan/buckskin leather upholstery, it is powered by a 1953 Cadillac 331 ci V8, dual 4 barrel carburetors and paired with a three-speed manual 1952 Oldsmobile transmission. It is classified as a Cad-Allard and contains the same drivetrain equipment raced by Carol Shelby in his 1952 Allard J2X.

Additional equipment includes a Cadillac dual quad intake manifold, 15 Jaguar wire-spoke wheels, drum brakes, side-exit exhaust pipes, Brooklands-style wind screens, and a banjo-style steering wheel. The car was originally built by Sandy Fox, a professional mechanic from Tuckerton, NJ and completed in 2004. It was driven only 500 miles when the builder go ill and put the car in storage till it was purchased by Chuck Culver in September of 2015. In 2015 the car was disassembled for new paint, electrical, wheels & Tires, Dash, Exhaust, Chrome trim, Engine compartment modification and Interior.

This J2X replica has been driven approximately 1,700 miles and is offered in The Villages, Florida with a black tonneau cover and a clean Florida title that lists the vehicle as a 1953 Allard J2X.

California-based Elite Enterprises and Hardy Motors utilized molds purchased from Allard Motor Company to produce J2X replicas, which were available in both turn-key and kit form through the 1990s. This example’s fiberglass bodywork is finished in red over a tubular steel chassis. The firewall was pushed out an additional 6” to accommodate more leg room. Exterior details include a louvered hood with an air scoop secured via leather hold-down straps as well as Brooklands-style wind screens, mirrors, dual air horns, and chrome side-exit exhaust pipes.

Chrome 15 Jaguar wire wheels wear Allard-branded knock-off spinners and Coker Classic tires, while a matching spare is affixed to the right side. The car rides on front torsion bars and coilovers, a heavy-duty sway bar, and a 10-bolt GM rear end. Stopping power is provided by VW Transporter drum brakes and suspension in front and 1965 Pontiac Trans Am suspension and rear end, with finned drums out back.

The cabin features bench seating trimmed in Tan/Buckskin leather, which extends to the door panels. A push-button starter is installed, and stainless steel panels line the footwells. Additional appointments include lap belts, map pockets, a rearview mirror, and a passenger grab handle.

A banjo-style steering wheel fronts a machine-turned dashboard with new black Auto Meter instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, amperage, fuel level, and coolant temperature.

The Cadillac 331ci V8 is equipped with an Cadillac dual quad intake manifold, Cadillac branded finned valve covers, and a polished air cleaner assembly.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual Oldsmobile transmission. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery below.

It is a modified VW Transporter front suspension. I have collected kit car info over the years. Hardy took over the assets from Elite in Minnesota, the original car kit manufacturer. I think Hardy sold the assets to a company in NY (or Canada) owned by Roger Allard; no relation to Sidney Allard the Brit and Original Allard Mfg. The original J2/J2X Allard’s had a Ford solid axel, split in the middle to give an “independent” front suspension. Handling a challenge as described by Vincent 998. I believe all the Elite/Hardy cars had VW fronts; I think the NY/Canadian Allard has a more modern wishbone type IFS front end.
